"So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath." (Acts 13:42)
The Word of God brings division. Those who do not seek God turn away, while those who long for Him desire to hear more about Him. When Paul and Barnabas preached about Jesus, many from their own nation and religion left, but the strangers, the Gentiles begged to hear the Word of God again the next Sabbath.
Those who hungered for God’s Word returned the following Sabbath to listen. However, the Jews were filled with envy and opposed Paul’s message. In contrast, the Gentiles received the Word with joy, and all who were appointed to eternal life believed.
The same sermon can evoke different reactions: some will remain indifferent, others may respond with hostility, but those who are destined for eternal life will believe.
