"And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, 'My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, "Wash, and be clean"?’" — 2 Kings 5:13
Naaman, a man afflicted with a terrible disease, would not have been healed if he had ignored the advice of his servants. When Elisha instructed him to wash seven times in the Jordan River, Naaman became angry. He argued that the rivers of his own country were better and envisioned his healing happening in a different way.
However, his servants offered wise advice: “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” Their logic was simple: if you were willing to do something difficult, why not obey a simple instruction?
Naaman heeded their advice, followed Elisha’s instructions, and was completely healed. If he had been proud or thought himself smarter than his servants, he would have remained a leper.
