"Let the proud be
ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate
in thy precepts." — Psalm 119:78
"Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be
ashamed of my hope." — Psalm 119:116
The
psalmist knows he has no reason to be ashamed because his hope is right and
placed in the right Person. If his hope had been in himself or in another
person, he would have reason to be ashamed. He who trusts in the Lord is humble
and obeys His Word, so he has nothing to be ashamed of.
The
proud, on the other hand, rely on themselves, and thus, they will be ashamed.
