"How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." - Proverbs 16:16
These words were spoken by a man in whose house all the vessels were made of gold (1 Kings 10:21).
Although wealth acquired through honest and hard work is good, wisdom is much better. Gold can satisfy material needs, but it cannot help us grow in holiness. However, the wisdom received from the Word of God can. Wisdom is better because thieves can steal gold, but they can't steal wisdom. You may lose your wealth due to an earthquake, fire, or flood, but you can't lose your wisdom because of them. Those with heavenly wisdom will one day enter the city where the streets are pure gold (Revelation 21:21).
Wisdom is better, and therefore, it is more worth our efforts.
