"Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God." - Hebrews 3:12
This warning against unbelief is not addressed to unbelievers but to believers. The apostle addresses the brothers, saying, "Beware." How dangerous is unbelief that God's Word calls the unbelieving heart "evil." Without faith, it is impossible to please God, receive His promises, or have our prayers answered. An unbelieving heart does not recognize God's omnipotence or trust in Him, and it grieves God. Because of unbelief, people could not enter the promised land (Hebrews 3:19).
A lack of caution leads to a lack of faith, and a lack of faith brings the presence of sin.
So, let me beware of unbelief, lest an evil heart of unbelief takes root within me and leads me away from the living God.
