Imperishable Bread of Life

 

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.” - John 6:35

This is the first of Jesus' "I AM" statements. He said this after the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves. Just as physical bread is necessary for life, so believing in Jesus is necessary for eternal life. The Bread of Life satisfies the hunger of the soul, never goes stale, gives eternal life, and is free. The bread that Jesus multiplied was perishable food, but He is the Bread of Life, and those who believe in Him feed on that imperishable Bread of Life.
