Until now, I have written meditations about what the hero of my favorite psalm does; what he thinks about, what he prays for, what he wishes for, what he rejoices and grieves for. This week, I want to see what this Psalm teaches about God, what God is like, and what He does in our lives.
1. God is our Teacher.
"Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end." - Psalm 119:33
The psalmist wants to obey God's Word not just for a while but always, even until the end. Therefore, he needs a perfect teacher who provides effective training, both theoretical and practical lessons. He wants to learn the way of God's statutes, and there can be no better Teacher of those statutes than the Author of the statutes Himself. God is our perfect Teacher, and the lessons He imparts are never forgotten. Lessons taught by men may make us arrogant but lessons taught by God humble us. Lessons taught by men provide knowledge, whereas lessons taught by God instill in us a desire for holiness and sanctify us.
Our Lord gives us practical lessons for a holy life.
