"Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law." - Psalm 119:18
The psalmist, as well as anyone who prays this prayer, loves God's Word and knows that within it lie wonders—precious promises, sanctifying, strengthening, renewing, comforting, and joyful words. They understand that spiritual vision is required to see these wonders, emphasizing the need for open eyes. What's the point of wandering through a beautiful garden filled with exquisite flowers if one is blind to see their beauty? That is why the psalmist asks the heavenly Oculist to give him spiritual sight. The result and purpose of answering this prayer is to behold the wonders contained within God's Word.
