“Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned.” – Hosea 7:8
I can
imagine what it would look like if I only bake one side of the cake or the pie
and don't turn it over. It's neither a cake nor dough. One side is very
browned; the other side is raw. It is to such an
unappetizing cake that the Lord compares His people, who has mixed himself with
other peoples and become like them.
God's
people should not be an unturned cake. A Christian who is neither God-fearing
nor world-loving, neither an unbeliever nor a devoted follower of Christ is
like an unturned cake. He does not follow Christ with all his heart, but his
heart is divided between God and the world. Like a half-baked and unturned cake
is the Christian who outwardly obeys the Word of God, but whose heart is not
changed. God doesn't need a half-baked cake; God doesn't need half-hearted
followers.
